Who is Shailputri?
Mata Shailputri is the first form of Goddess Durga worshipped during Navratri. Also known as Parvati and Hemavati, she is the daughter of King Himavan, the ruler of the Himalayas. Her name, “Shailputri,” means “daughter of the mountains,” symbolizing her connection to nature and her strength.
How Shailputri Got Her Name
According to Hindu mythology, when the demon Mahishasura began troubling the gods, they prayed to Goddess Durga for help. To save the world, she took the form of Shailputri. Born to King Himavan, who had a strong bond with the mountains, she was named Shailputri to honor her roots and her qualities of resilience and courage.

Furthermore, Mata Shailputri is believed to be the source of divine feminine energy. She is connected to the Muladhara Chakra, the first energy center in the body, located at the base of the spine. Worshipping her is said to help activate this chakra, bringing balance and stability into our lives.
